Mobile Bumper repair/refinishing

As I sit here, writing this, I am on the eve of expanding my business. The economy is tough, but I am in a fortunate situation:  I own a business that saves people a ton of money on vehicle repairs...vehicles people are hanging onto and not trading in right now. I am very lucky to have chosen this business to start as I must admit, I started it because I wanted to do this type of work.

Mobile bumper repair/refinishing is a semi-new type of service. Over the last 15 years or so, the automotive industry has changed a lot about how cars are painted, employing water-based paints to their applications. 90% or more of the bumpers on new vehicles are plastic (more or less). Less full sized trucks and some SUVs, every other bumper is plastic.

The improvement in the flexibility of the new paints, flexible body fillers like PolyFlex and flexibilizer additives, bumpers can be refinished to like-new condition. Nowadays, bumpers are required to be able to take a 15mph hit without major damage. A lot of times the bumper won't even crack/tear at that speed. This means it can be repaired and refinished to it's original factory condition.

Exciting times for me as I have been looking forward to adding this service since I started removing dents a few years ago.

What to offer and who wants it?

As I expand Dan the Dent Man into other areas of automotive restoration, I play with the idea of which service to add next. As of this blog entry, I offer paintless dent removal, headlight lense restoration and windshield chip repair. All these services are provided by me with all my equipment riding along with me in my subaru impreza wrx. Now, as far as demand, touch-up and bumper painting are the most demanded services. Touch-up, maybe. Not too much equipment and I have training in touch-up repairs. As for Bumper painting, I would have to employ and train someone to do it.

The amount of equipment needed to perform bumper repairs will definitely put me over budget on space in my compact car. Spray guns, paints, fillers, sanding/blocking tools, air compressor, just to name a few are the many items I would need to get this going. I have the perfect person to take on this side of the business. I call him pop. My dad has been in the car business forever and has the same passion I do for restoring and modifying cars as I do. He would be an easy fit and I know he's aching to get out of wrenching. I know you aren't supposed to work with family but I want to be able to offer this service to draw more people to my side of it. I would'nt even take a commission on his repairs so I would have to consider it a division of Dan the Dent Man.

I know I babble on, but I don't have any readers yet anyway. Maybe this is just a way for me to work out my own thoughts!

So, coming soon, mobile bumper repair and touch-up. Due out by July because you have to set a date for your goals. As for the future, interior repair or wheel repair by year's end. You read it here first...at least I will.

Why Paintless Dent Removal?

Because you want to save a ton of money! paintless dent removal or pdr is the most cost effective way of fixing minor dents and dings when compared to any other method. if the paint is intact and the dent is not stretched due to a rolling impact, generally it can be fixed (or improved greatly) with paintless dent removal.

Because you want to retain your factory paint job! pdr saves your car from being re-sprayed, which depreciates the value of your car greatly. Especially when your vehicle is leased, you know the dealer is looking to recoup from their reconditioning costs they will incur on your vehicle. This makes them very picky when you turn your vehicle in. pdr will get your vehicle back to new condition and dealers will never know  you had a ding.

Because your time is precious. These days we just don't have 3-5 days to leave our vehicle at the body shop. my pdr business is fully-mobile so i can come to your house or job and make many of your repairs within an hour! body shops have to grind off your paint, apply body filler, sand down the body filler, apply primer, sand primer, apply paint, apply clearcoat, then wet sand and buff. most body shops have different guys to do each job, so you could be waiting for each different tech to get to your car. this why most body shops need 3-5 days.
